Construction is progressing on the West Industrial Park in Aurora. Located at the intersection of Minnesota State Highway 135 and County Road 100, the new industrial space is intended to help attract new businesses to an area with few existing manufacturing jobs.
“Most of the building work is complete, and crews are now focused on exterior site preparation, grading, infrastructure and street construction,” the Department of Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation shared in a June 2025 Facebook post. “IRRR supported the development with a $9 million Site Ready grant to the city for infrastructure and utilities to serve approximately 80 acres of land and a $6 million loan to the Aurora Economic Development Authority to construct the building for future manufacturing tenants.”
The site is home to a 32,500 square foot spec building and will also feature a multi-modal trailhead. With direct access to the Mesabi Trail and amenities like restrooms and picnic areas, the public trailhead facility has been designed to accommodate bicyclists and skiers, as well as snowmobiles, ATVs, and more.
In a December 2023 KAXE report, Director of Business Recruitment for IRRR Janelle Greschner said that the project is also part of an effort to attract residents to the area with manufacturing jobs.
“Locating a new business will not only attract a new tax base, it will increase the number of highly skilled, talented individuals from out of the area to live and thrive in the community,” Janelle told KAXE.
